 The Editorial:
The Internet. Allows large numbers of computer terminals to interact directly with each other. Through this network of interconnected systems, the NERDS> community of radical computer enthusiasts meet in a central location. A hive of activity, for sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences.

NERDS> was once, a single elitist group. In a time when all Internet users were geeks, and the world wide web was about linked and referenced documents. Today the Internet is a global network, in an age when global isn't a big word anymore. We hock up our homes and our lives to this universal electronic system.

Commerce, communication, and communities are being build within this electronic virtual space. Campaign groups use it to organise demonstrations, hobbyists use it to organise bulk discounts with suppliers, and terrorists use it to learn about western culture.

Today these electronic networks are the fastest growing and most distributed technologies on the planet. Digital TV & Radio, broadband Internet, unmetered evening & weekend calls, 3G mobile network, WiFi network & UPnP, smart cards, MP3s & DVDs, Internet banking, interactive football, digital cameras.. - continued..

NERDS> II - Millennium Edition Features
When we launched this new network in September last year, we demonstrated how video technology should be implemented on the Internet, via the use of a single point of access.

We're continuing our trials with volunteers from the existing community, however, we don't have the bandwidth or server capacity to support much beyond two thousand active users. We can announce that we are developing a pure P2P client, which includes all the existing community devices including video conferencing, file sharing, and single point of access.

New functionality in NERDS> II includes:

  • free, or full membership options (more..)
  • A Commercial Channel (more..)
  • A Channel for students.. (more..)
  • Video & Audio Conferencing, News & Facilities (more..)
  • Private channels & communication (more..)
  • Commercially owned & sponsored channels (more..)
  • NERDS> Certification Scheme (more..)
  • Job Centre (more..)
  • Vote on issues (responsibility) (more..)
